Madrid

About the city

Madrid has a tempo of its own: The dry air of the Castilian plain crackles with its cosmopolitan crowds. If the illuminated shop windows along the Gran Vía, and the unrelenting elegance of Paseo de la Castellana are overwhelming, retreat to Old Madrid. Its tangle of side streets south of Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol are what makes the real Madrid. Spend half a day in the Prado Museum, thaat sit to rest on the steps leading down to the lake in lush Retiro Park. The city begins to live it up as soon as the sun goes down. Madrid claims to boast the largest number of bars per capita of any European city. Madrid teems with cultural events all year round. After concert, play or film, you can choose among literally hundreds of tapas bars and an endless array of nightspots. Madrid successfylly combines its cosmopolitan sophistication with its most cherished local traditions, the result is fascinating to explore.

A visit to the Vatican Museums is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Along with Skip-the-Line Access to the Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica after the Sistine Chapel, you’ll discover the highlights in a relaxing way with less than 20 people and an art historian guide who will give you the Vatican story in just 3 hours.

- Admire the Raphael Rooms created for the popes

From when you meet your passionate English-speaking guide at our partner entrance to when you step out into St. Peter’s Square 3 hours later, the Vatican story will fill your mind. The lines and crowds will fade away as you follow a path through the Vatican Museums. As your guide is an expert on the Vatican, they’ll be delighted to answer your questions, and you’ll always be able to hear them through your dedicated audio headsets.

The Vatican Museums are lengthy. Without a guide, many become overwhelmed by the sheer number of artworks. Your guide will lead you through the important rooms. In this way, you’ll get a big-picture view of the Vatican. The human story will stay with you. The clashes between the powerful popes and artists will give you a different perspective on the collection.

When you set foot in the Sistine Chapel, you’ll be so familiar with the Renaissance that you’ll recognize Michelangelo’s hand on your own. The guides respect the chapel as a holy place, so they stay quiet inside, but by then you’ll know what to look out for. All that you need to do is soak up the splendor and creativity.

Your guide is free to talk under the vaulted dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. After skipping the lines which stretch across St. Peter’s Square, you’ll explore the numerous architectural, religious and artistic marvels inside. While treasures like Bernini’s massive bronze altar and the dome are hard to miss, you’ll want to find Michelangelo’s Pietá and the rest of the basilica wonders.

Once you exit the Vatican into St. Peter’s Square, you’ll have soaked up countless book’s worth of information, centuries of Vatican history and Renaissance artworks in a 3 hour guided tour of one of the most interesting collections in the world.
